A battery is a chemical reaction vessel. Over time, issues such as plate corrosion, electrolyte dry-out, and internal micro-shorts occur silently. Battery degradation is typically a slow and highly concealed process. Today, using a set of real online monitoring data from a customer's backend, let's uncover these "lurking" faulty batteries.
Battery No. 15: Sudden spike in internal resistance, health warning triggered.
Compared to the normal internal resistance of approximately 4.0mΩ in surrounding batteries, the battery monitoring system detected that the internal resistance of Battery No. 15 had surged to 9.09mΩ, with an internal resistance change rate as high as 213%. This is akin to blood vessels suddenly narrowing; increased internal resistance means the battery's internal plates have aged or become sulfated. Meanwhile, its SOH (State of Health) has plummeted to 77%. Although its voltage and SOC (State of Charge) appear normal at the moment, it will generate severe heat once subjected to high-current discharge. Its actual capacity has already been significantly compromised, meaning it is highly likely to fail when needed most.
Battery No. 22: A completely failed "lagging battery."
This battery presents a more severe issue. The battery monitoring system detected that its voltage had dropped to 10.609V, SOC had dropped directly to zero, and SOH was merely 78%. Meanwhile, its internal resistance reached 8.98mΩ, with a change rate of 206%. This is a classic "lagging cell" within a battery pack. It is well known that battery packs are subject to the "wooden barrel effect"—the discharge capacity of the entire pack is limited by the weakest cell. During charge and discharge cycles, Battery No. 22 not only fails to contribute but also becomes a heavy drag, making it highly susceptible to overcharging or thermal runaway.
Just imagine: without an online monitoring system, how long would it take for these hidden hazards to be discovered?
It can not only "see" voltage but also deeply "probe" internal resistance and evaluate "health." From the voltage, internal resistance, and temperature of each battery to its health status, historical curves, and alarm records... through the cross-comparison of multi-dimensional data, the system intelligently provides early warnings for battery performance degradation trends and potential faults. This helps O&M (Operations & Maintenance) personnel precisely locate abnormal cells, enabling accurate intervention right at the inflection point of performance degradation. It provides clear data support and a solid decision-making basis, ultimately elevating the intelligence level of power and environment management.
